Wonderia World Rules — Backpack, Friendly Fire & Host Control

v0.5.11.2196 introduced World Rules: host-facing toggles that change how risky exploration and co-op combat feel. The headline option is Drop Backpack on Death—you can finally keep your inventory on death for smoother long-range runs. This page explains what the rules do, who can change them, and how they pair with auto-save from patch 2170.

Full patch detail: 2196 notes. Lobby hygiene still lives on multiplayer tips and troubleshooting.

Where to find World Rules

Open Game Options → World. Each world stores its own settings.

  • Single-player: change World Rules anytime.
  • Multiplayer: only the host can change them. Changes sync immediately to all players and appear as a chat message.

Announce rules before the invite night so guests are not surprised mid-dungeon.

Drop Backpack on Death

Default: enabled on every new world (backpack still drops).

Turn it off if you want a smoother exploration loop—especially for:

  • Far-from-home desert or cave pushes
  • Achievement / collection nights (achievements)
  • Guests who hate corpse runs after a wipe

Turn it on (or leave default) if your group wants higher stakes and corpse recovery as part of the fantasy.

Note: earlier hotfixes addressed some multiplayer death-backpack disappear edge cases; keeping the backpack on death sidesteps that entire failure class when the host prefers comfort.

Friendly Fire moved to World Rules

The Friendly Fire toggle now lives under World Rules and only appears in multiplayer. Hosts decide whether teammates can damage each other before the fight night starts—useful for chaotic morph practice versus chill building evenings.

v0.5.9.2170 added auto-save under Game Settings (interval 30 seconds–30 minutes, or Key Events Only). It is not listed inside World Rules, but hosts should configure both before long sessions: World Rules shape risk; auto-save shapes rollback risk. See patch 2170.

Host checklist before invite

  1. Update everyone to 2196+ (preferably 2201+).
  2. Set Drop Backpack on Death for tonight’s mood.
  3. Set Friendly Fire intentionally—do not leave it as a surprise.
  4. Confirm auto-save interval in Game Settings.
  5. Paste the chosen rules in chat once; re-paste when late joiners arrive.
  6. If joins fail, stop inviting and open troubleshooting (Mac LAN was fixed in 2187).
